The little fishing town of Peniche is located in the center of west Portugal, about 89 km north of the country capital, Lisbon. Peniche is one of if not the most important surf region along the Portuguese coastline. It has become one surf epicentre and is also called the capital of the waves. This little European fishing village is home to Supertubos or Supertubes, which hosts the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal.
Mixed in with the old-world charm, modern day Peniche’s restaurants, boutique hotels, and beach bars are built around the surf scene. Be our guest and experience this place like a local immersed in the waves, colours, food and sounds of Portugal. You can relax and concentrate on your surfing.
A perfect day could look like catching some waves before breakfast, squeezing in another dip before lunch and then heading to enjoy some fresh fish from the region. After that some more surf or skating or yoga and after a beautiful sunset listening to some chilled tunes there is a very traditional restaurant waiting for you and your taste buds.

Intermediate Surfer / Improvers
Peniche has been known as a fishermen’s village for hundreds of years. Every night merchants from all over the world bargained for their catch in one of Portugal’s largest fish markets in Peniche’s harbour. So as you might guess, the sea food and the fish in Peniche is fresh as it can be, you definitely should try it. It’s also the dish Portuguese chefs know the best.
Tasca do Joel: Hidden in the back of Peniche it is our favourite and the most well known restaurant which won hundreds of prizes already. Fish and meat in all variations. They also run a store for wine and Portuguese local products. This place is for sure worth the visit while you are in Peniche!
