The Kudanil Explorer, a 50-metre long luxury expedition vessel that’ll take you diving, surfing and exploring the most magical, uncharted parts of Indonesia.
KUDANIL CRUISING LOCATIONS
Cruising locations in Indonesia vary throughout the year with a priority to stay off the beaten track and explore the expedition capabilities of the vessel. Surf zones such as Savu Sea (Nusa Tenggara Timur), Spice Islands and Secret Papua are all away from the main crowded surf hubs of Indonesia.
Surfing alone and in solitude is getting harder to achieve these days, but if that’s your desire, then Mahalo Surf Experience and Kudanil get extremely excited about helping this become a reality for you and you’ve definitely come to the right place
KUDANIL EXPLORER BOAT
Originally launched in 1978 as a safety standby vessel for the oil industry, then refit in 2018 purposefully for charter use, Kudanil Explorer’s owners took the opportunity to convert a heavy-duty ocean-going vessel into a luxury expedition yacht, which proves the perfect base from which to discover the most remote areas of Indonesia.
Combining the luxury of an expedition yacht with the built-in safety of a true offshore vessel, Kudanil Explorer’s structure and design make her one of the sturdiest seafaring vessels in the region and allow her to venture to areas of the archipelago that other boats cannot reach.
Indonesia offers the best surf in the world. It delivers impressive year-round consistency and reliability, a staggering number of surf breaks amongst the 18,000+ islands, wave types for every ability.
Search for surf breaks off the beaten track. Nusa Tenggara Timur and Papua offer perfect conditions and very accessible waves, away from the surf hubs of Indonesia. We stop by the hidden breaks of Rote, Savu, Sumba and other islands en route – enjoy uncrowded waves selected especially for Kudanil Explorers.
Kudanil Explorer is available to charter in the most remote regions of Indonesia (Raja Ampat, Papua, and the Maluku Islands). These are areas untouched by the general surf tourism market and offer some of the quietest waves in the world! The charter can also run routes in Sumba, Sumbawa, and Rote as well!
You can expect to surf tropical reef passes with just you and your crew onboard. All trips are accompanied by Mahalo Surf Experience expert surf guide to finding the best waves for you and supervise water safety.
The focus of Kudanil Explorer is to offer an exclusive experience onboard and in the water, chasing some of the most untouched surf in the world!

Each of the guest cabin ensuites are incredibly spacious and come with stylish amenities and skincare products.

In respect to Secret Papua, November to March is the most reliable time to surf. Swell size is typically shoulder high to a little overhead. Bigger swells are less frequent but they do occur. If you want the best chance of bigger waves, January is the best month, with December and February being the next best. Please note, the Kudanil can also explore Savu Sea (Nusa Tenggara Timur), Offshore Northern Sumatra and Spice Islands.
