Barefoot Luxury Surf Trip

Six Senses Laamu | Maldives

The Maldives are probably on a lot of people’s bucket lists. So it always has been on the bucket list of founder and creator of Mahalo Surf Experience Felippe Dal Piero. So he chased his dream. He combined his passion for surfing & sharing his lifestyle and made the Maldives to one of the Mahalo Surf destinations. After several of years exploring the Maldives by boat chasing empty surf breaks and remote places far from the crowd in the north of Male it was time to visit the Six Senses Laamu. Rumors said the breakfast is outstanding and quality surf just right in front. So decision made and why not make his wife very happy and bring her along. Happy wife happy life or how is the saying!
Let´s hear from them how it is.

First glimpse

Stepping our feet first time on the island we could immediately feel that there is something different. Something we haven’t been experiencing before at other resorts we visited. A very special atmosphere, peaceful and pure. So this experience started off right – we were blown away from that moment on. And this was just the start of our Six Senses experience. We were encouraged to take off our shoes by our GEM, because the Olhuveli Island is a barefoot island as we got to know. So we just put our shoes back on at our departure.

So what’s the surf like?

The Six Senses Laamu house reef frequently offers a couple of quick, rippable lefts which are a short, convenient paddle from the resort beach. Beginners may also enjoy their very own separate wave right off the island beach. Across the channel and within view of the resort, the mighty Yin Yang can, on its day, deliver one of the most powerful and perfect right-hand barrels in the country. The atoll contains several other waves – some extremely close, others accessed by a half hour boat ride.

Besides Surfing

Their Spa is just amazing. Did you know that the Six Senses concept originate from the spa and individual treatments itself. But also arial yoga overviewing the sea is great. Perfect to really unwind and relax on all levels. There are also all kinds of water activities you can enjoy or just read a book and relax by the pool or on your private deck.

Good to know before you go

Ladies packing light is key. First you don’t need shoes, second it is hot. So pack some light colourful dresses and most important bikinis and hats. So there will be more space for another surf board.
Ask for a seat on the right-hand side of the plane on your way in to see all the beauty of the Maldives from above.
Make sure to bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent. Natural solutions are the way to go. Check out what we are using in our other blog post and why.
In general try avoiding to bring plastic bags or plastic packaging to the Maldives. Ecological friendly solutions will be appreciated by nature.
As a surfer you can check the Jetty C Surf break from your overwater villa. Therefore request one of the Villas 69-79. They face the wave and you even can paddle straight out to the point from your villa.

Summing up

All in all the experience at the Six Senses Laamu was very special and we are excited to be back very soon. We loved it.
The whole set up is just perfect on point. The service top notch and the range and quality of the food outstanding. We specially loved their organic garden and the food at the LEAF restaurant. The Spa facilities are amazing and the surf just a short boat ride away.
The Six Senses Laamu is truly a place where all your senses will be pampered. Also your sixth sense…The sense to get in touch with yourself and realise that we are connected to nature because everything is connected.

Want to walk barefoot and explore this magical place in the Maldives now? Book your escape now and we are more than happy to customise together with you your barefoot luxury surf trip to the Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives.
